Item Description
Rhodolite for years was defined as a red gem variety of Pyrope Garnet, but now the name is more loosely applied to any pink or red gem material in the Pyrope-Almandine series (most analyzed Rhodolites actually turn out to be Almandine). With that said, the term Rhodolite is often used in the gem world instead of Pyrope or Almandine. This stone is a very attractive example of the famous East African gems showing a very deep blood red hue when the stone is rotated in the light. It's a fairly dark stone, but this is a bigger than average stone of the material, and gems of this size tend to be on the darker end of the spectrum. The gem has virtually eye clean clarity and a beautiful "round brilliant" cut. Most Garnet gems are rarely over 5 carats, so don't miss out on getting this one for a bargain price.
