Item Description

Rich rose-red, lustrous, translucent rhodochrosite botryoids with flattened faces cover both sides of the sculptural mounded matrix. The botryoids GLOW with cherry-red color, when back lit. Rhodochrosite is the best known species from this less well-known extinct Soviet-era Fe-Mn-Pb-Zn-Ba deposit. These came out in the mid-1990s, with none since. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X26. The Logan label is incorrect. Rare Kara-Oba rhodo is different looking from botryoidal Ushkatyn rhodo. A Russian dealer label with the piece has the correct locality. Valued $500-1000
