Item Description

The locality of Cavnic was first documented in 1336, but mining activity in the area dates back to the Roman age. It was named after the river, which got its name from a Slavic word, kopan?, which refers to digging. This area has produced an amazing amount of beautiful display minerals, including some distinctive Rhodochrosites. This attractive small cabinet piece features soft pink compressed "rosettes" of Rhodochrosite sitting atop sharp, lustrous, gemmy Quartz crystals (the largest of which is doubly-terminated). So beautiful and showy for the locality. The color is really eye-catching, and you don't see a lot of these specimens on the market these days.
