Item Description
Spherical "balls" of nubby pastel-pink, sparkly, translucent rhodochrosite microcrystals rest atop an earlier generation of smaller oxide-tinted rhodochrosite. This showy, rich and classic small cabinet is from the famous, ancient precious metal, polymetallic deposits at Banská Štiavnica. This is one of Europe's great historic districts, where mining started by the Celts in the 3rd century B.C. See the excellent 2016 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 47, No. 3.
