Item Description

Santa Rita Rhodochrosites are rare on the market, especially these days, as the best specimens came out in the late 1980s. This attractive specimen features a coverage of tiny, rhombic, beautiful soft orange-pink colored Rhodochrosite crystals which are associated with VERY GEMMY, jewel-like, sharp, lustrous green colored crystals of Sphalerite measuring up to 1.1 cm across. Most Sphalerites from Peru are either a dark warm hue (red, orange, brown, etc.) or black and opaque, so to see gem quality GREEN crystals like this is rare from any Peruvian locality in my experience. Excellent quality all around with no damage, outside of the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket. A very attractive and fine quality example of this classic material from Peru. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #52-6) and is accompanied by labels from Richard A. Kosnar, who was one of the first US dealers to visit Peru in the 1970s and bring back sulfide specimens along with Rhodochrosites and Fluorites.
