Item Description

The famed Sweet Home Mine is best known for producing arguably the finest Rhodochrosite crystals ever seen. This piece was mined in the 1990s and comes from the Hedgehog Pocket. What makes this piece so intriguing and special is that it features FLUORITE, which was very rare from the Hedgehog Pocket. This large miniature / small cabinet features sharp, gemmy, pinkish-red colored, well-formed rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 1.1 cm, sitting among "needle" Quartz crystals and additional Quartz matrix. The front lower portion of the piece features a "band" of stark purple colored Fluorite, creating a very attractive overall specimen. The piece is in good shape as I can't see any major damage to the Rhodos, but there are some slight imperfections on the edges. This particular association is so eye-catching and beautiful, and not as common as one might think from the Sweet Home. Any additional color to these already beautiful Rhodochrosite crystals is just icing on the cake. A really cool specimen of this classic material from the Sweet Home. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X57-5) with a label from a previous dealer, valued at $2,500 retail.
