Item Description

A good association specimen from this world-class locality. A sharp, 6 mm, translucent, red-pink color rhombohedron of Rhodochrosite associated with a 4 mm, lilac color, dodecahedral Fluorite crystal on black Sphalerite matrix. There are also some micro greenish color Apatite crystals on the piece as well. The Fluorites is very gemmy, and I have photographed it under the microscope to better show the quality. These specimens have sky-rocketed in value since the mine closed, and the specimens from this mine are certainly among the finest quality Rhodochrosite crystals in the world. For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens. This piece is from one of the last pockets that Rich opened before he was done at the mine. Enjoy.
