Item Description

A throwback from the 1990s and very hard to find on the market today, here we have an interesting association specimen from Kazakhstan. This piece is from the Kara-Oba deposit, and is one of the few I've seen. This small cabinet display specimen features very good sized, well-formed, blocky tan colored rhombohedra of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 3.6 cm across sitting atop black, lustrous, bladed Ferberite crystals, with minor associated golden metallic Pyrite. Now I know you're saying that the Rhodos aren't pink, but remember that it forms a series with Siderite, so it's safe to say that these are iron-bearing Rhodochrosite crystals, and not 100% pure in manganese. For all you Rhodo collectors out there, this is the kind of thing that most collectors don't have in their collections, especially in such aesthetic and showy specimens. The piece is not damage free, as there are some rough spots here and there, but it's still a very hard to find piece that would make a great addition to any suite of worldwide Rhodochrosites or a collection of minerals from the Kara-Oba Mine. Priced in the inventory at $500. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X33-3).
