Item Description

The famous Eagle Mine produced some of the finest crystallized sulfide specimens from any mine in Colorado, along with associated carbonates. This small cabinet sized specimen hosts dozens of compressed rhombic crystals of golden-pinkish colored Rhodochrosite measuring up to about 6 mm associated with metallic, brassy colored Chalcopyrite (some of which has a dark grey-black surface oxidation) sitting on a layer of golden Pyrite and black Sphalerite. The piece is in great condition with only minor roughness around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. It should be noted that these Rhodochrosite crystals have a bit of iron content, which is why they are not purely pink. The piece displays well on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A very attractive specimen of this well known material from this now defunct locality. From the collection of Lee B. Burnett of Morrison, Colorado (#LB508)
