Rhodochrosite with Chalcopyrite ''balls'' on Quartz

Item Description

A gorgeous and showy display specimen from the Starnitsa Deposit in Bulgaria featuring a coverage of beautiful baby pink colored, compressed rhombohedra of Rhodochrosite sitting atop a layer of Quartz matrix. If you look closely, both sides of the specimen have a coverage of micro spheres of dark metallic golden Chalcopyrite. The back of the piece has a much richer coverage than the front, and the "balls" looks beautiful up close with an almost chatoyant reflective luster when rotated in the light. I've seen a good number of pieces from this locality, but I've never seen a piece quite like this with the unusual spherical habit of the Chalcopyrites. No major damage anywhere, outside of the edge of the piece where it was removed from the pocket wall.
