Rhodochrosite stalactites slice (Trancoso Coll.)

A very sculptural two-sided slice of at least four intergrown rhodochrosite stalactites that were engulfed by the final large stalactite. The striking variable colors of rich rose-red and pastel-pink and dense banding make for a very expressive specimen. The concentric banding, colors and striking "bullseyes" really stand out, when the piece is backlit! The bruising to the external rind on one edge is certainly only a modest detraction. Capillitas rhodochrosite from the famous late 1980s-early 1990s finds is highly desirable as mineral specimens, decorative pieces and in jewelry. Comes with a custom-made lucite base valued at $145 for free. Ex Dr. Vasco Trancoso Collection and illustrated in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale. He is a prominent Portugal collector and doctor near Lisbon. He collected for 60 years and built a fine worldwide display collection, that we recently purchased in Europe.
