Item Description

VERY RARE LOCALITY RHODOCHROSITE,a rich and showy rhodochrosite combination small cabinet from a most obscure Peru porphyry copper deposit. MINDAT does not list rhodochrosite for the locale and the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale shows only one specimen, a quartz and pyrite. Lustrous, blocky rich pink rhodochrosite rhombs, to 1.4 cm on the diagonal, richly and attractively cover the undulating hefty layered ore matrix of sphalerite and pyrite. Periphery wear reveals, that two generations of different colored rhodochrosite compose the rhombs. The tiny pink rhombs cover larger lustrous, translucent rose-red rhombs. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # 46-8. Fascinating, rich, perhaps UNIQUE rhodo combination material from this locale. Value??
