Item Description

The Yaogangxian Mine is one of the most prolific localities in China from the standpoint of the quantity and quality of specimens found. There are many well-known species from this mine, but one of the most sought after minerals is Rhodochrosite, which has only been found in very minute quantities. This piece is one of the most attractive and unique association specimens we've seen from this incredible locale as it features sharp compressed rhombohedra of cherry-pink colored Rhodochrosite measuring up to 6 mm across which are associated with off-white, thin prismatic crystals of Bertrandite along with minor Scheelite plus Quartz crystals on matrix. Yes the Rhodo crystals aren't incredibly large, but this is a good quality specimen for the locality, and the Bertrandite association makes it even more desirable! If you collect worldwide Rhodochrosites, minerals from China or specifically pieces from the Yaogangxian Mine, don't miss out on this attractive association specimen. VERY few of these exist, and it's likely there will not be any more in the future. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X11) with a label from a previous dealer. Valued at $1,200 in the inventory.
