Item Description

This is a rarely seen specimen of Rhodochrosite from the Eagle Mine in Saguache County, Colorado (not to be confused with more prolific Eagle Mine in the ghost town of Gilman). This area, according to the entry on mindat.org, is the northeastern most part of the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. Specimens from this locality are few and far between, and we've only had a select few of them over the years to offer. This piece features small, bright pink rhombic crystals of Rhodochrosite nestled into a tight little Quartz vug, along with some other Rhodo crystals of light pink to almost tan hues on other parts of the specimen. The piece is certainly a must-have for any fan of worldwide Rhodochrosites or Colorado minerals for the locality alone. You may not see another one from this locality on the market for a while, so don't pass this up if this is the kind of mineral you collect. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X24-3). The piece was originally in the collection of Ralph Merrill, and is accompanied by several additional dealer labels.
