Item Description

A very rarely seen specimen of Rhodochrosite from the famous Yaogangxian Mine in China. This locality is well-known as one of the top specimen-producing localities in the last 20+ years in China, and while Rhodochrosite is known from this mine, it's rather difficult to find any specimens on the market, as they were mined years ago, and nothing has been found in years. This is one of the few specimens of Rhodochrosite that we've ever had to offer from this locality. If you're a collector of worldwide Rhodochrosite specimens, no collection is complete without one of these elusive pieces. This piece features unusually tabular / flattened crystals of Rhodochrosite with a very pale pink associated with black crystals of Wolframite / Ferberite and minor silvery-grey cubes of Fluorite. It was difficult to measure individual crystals of Rhodochrosite because of the nature of how they're intergrown, but I can see sections that measure over 2.0 cm. Very few of these exist, and you'd be hard pressed to find another in today's market, especially with this rare habit and Wolframite / Ferberite association.
