Item Description

There are hundreds of localities where Rhodochrosite has been found around the world, but specimens from the historic and beloved Foote Mine in North Carolina are certainly some of the more desirable from any locality in the United States. This locality is much better-known for its phosphate minerals, and good display specimens of Rhodochrosite are few and far between. This piece hosts attractive, dark reddish-brown, unusually spherical aggregates of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 6 mm on host rock matrix. If you collect worldwide Rhodochrosites or specifically minerals from the famous Foote Mine, this is a cool specimen of this fairly obscure material.
From the personal "keeper" collection of Jack Eaker, a geologist at the mine whose collection was recently brought to market (whose label says the specimen was identified by Jason Smith).
