Item Description

Rhodochrosite is a wide-ranging mineral, found in various environments around the world. With that said, most people are familiar with Rhodochrosites from ore body deposits, and pegmatitic Rhodos are certainly not common. This lovely specimen is from the famed Foote Mine in North Carolina, which was known to produce some unusual habits of Rhodochrosite in very limited numbers. The small cabinet features a sharp, and well-formed, isolated red-orange colored Rhodochrosite crystal measuring 3 mm with a few smaller accenting Rhodos. sitting on a plate of glistening white bladed Albite. The main crystal shows excellent rhombic form with small modifications on the corners. One of the better examples of this elusive and desirable material that we've had to offer, especially because the piece is a not a micro specimen, it's a small cabinet with an eye-visible Rhodochrosite crystal. From the collection Jack Eaker (whose label says the specimen was identified by Jason Smith).
