Item Description

This is the only specimen of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions. Please note that this piece came to us labeled as coming from the Cook's Kitchen Mine, but Rhodochrosite has not been reported from the locality on mindat.org. With that said, Bill Logan had an extensive worldwide Rhodochrosite collection, and would actively hunt for Rhodo from unlikely sources, so I believe it to be valid. It's important to note that Siderite has been reported from the Cook's Kitchen Mine, and it forms a series with Rhodochrosite, so you just need some manganese to give it a bit of a nudge and then it will be chemically Rhodochrosite. With that said, this piece is by no means a display specimen, but a reference piece featuring tiny semi-spherical groups of pink Rhodochrosite on the underlying matrix. If you collect worldwide Rhodochrosites, this is one of those pieces that you can use to check off a box on your list as you may never see another on the market. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X12)
