Rhodochrosite (RARE Chinese locality)

Item Description

This is the only specimen of Rhodochrosite that we've had to offer from the Xiaokouhuaying deposit in Hebei, China, and it's the kind of rare locality specimen that you'll only find in a comprehensive collection such as this. The piece hosts many compressed "disc"-shaped crystals of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 1.2 cm across, with a tan color (presumably from iron content) sitting on sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless prismatic Quartz crystals and minor iridescent dark grey-black Bornite and sparkling iridescent Pyrite. Most of the Rhodochrosites are in good shape, though there are some areas of roughness, but it's certainly forgivable for the incredibly rare locality. If you collect Rhodos, Chinese minerals, or oddball locality specimens, this is a great piece to add to your collection.
