Item Description

An impressive, 2.2 cm on edge, lustrous, translucent cherry-red rhodochrosite rhomb dominates the sulfide matrix festooned with needle quartz crystals and scattered clusters of tetrahedrite crystals on this dramatic and excellent example from the famous Sweet Home Mine. The frontal face is cleaved, with the sides having frosted faces. The smaller rhomb partially hidden behind the large rhomb adds pizzazz. This is a dramatic, highly representative combination example with a large rhomb from this renowned locale. The back has been sawed to enhance the display. An early example from the 1990s collecting efforts, as the Raul Orellana label states that the piece was extracted in 1993. Purchased in November, 1994, the former dealer label has a $550 price.
