Item Description

An OLD-TIME, very showy combination plate from the historic mines at Cavnic. The hefty undulating rose-pink layered rhodochrosite matrix is covered with sparkly quartz points and nicely accented with globular contrasting clusters of tan siderite or calcite rhombs. Classic old material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 2941. Kay's label says Hungary, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire prior to World War I. The old paper label on the side confirms the date. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
