Item Description

Rhodochrosite is VERY RARE from the well-known Bulldog Mine at Creede, famous for some of Colorado's finest wire Silver specimens. The face of this large, sawed ore specimen is highlighted by veinlets and pods of pastel-pink rhodochrosite and stringers of sulfide ore in the sculptural, vuggy, quartz-rich brecciated matrix. A 2.0 cm vug with white baryte blade sections on the top of the piece is a typical accessory and complement. MINDAT lists the species, but there are NO photographic examples in the Gallery. 1081 grams or 2.4 pounds. Formerly with the USGS (United States Geological Survey). Ex George Loud Collection No. 5664, a well-known Washington, DC and Georgia mineral collector. See: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/george-loud for more information on George. We recently acquired most of his impressive over 9000 piece collection. An exceptional rarity. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
