Item Description

A beautiful and showy combination plate from the famous mines at Cassandra, Greece. Scalenohedra of rhodochrosite are nicely scattered on the nubby crust of sharp calcite rhombs, all replaced by rhodochrosite now from the original calcite. The pleasing, pastel-pink crystals have a distinctive, waxy, wet-look to them. A few of the crystals are tipped, to reveal the partially hollow cores, which is nifty in effect even if technically damage. Classic and uncommon material from this historic locale. Ex Howard Belsky Collection.
