A really beautiful and interesting Colorado classic, featuring BOTH rhodochrosite styles this mine is famous for, on the same specimen! The mine famously produced crystals of both rhombohedral form and "disc" shaped flattened rhombs, in the mid-1900s and before. The rhombohedral crystal atop is 3 cm across, and it sits aside a rich cluster of gloriously pink "blades" of pillow-like rhodochrosite discs. Actually, there is a THIRD generation of rhodochrosite here, come to think of it! The large rhombohedral crystal is coated by a later generation of 2-mm thick pale pink rhodochrosite encrustation. So we have three different deposits of rhodochrosite on the same piece, all accented with sparkly quartz and looking quite lovely. No damage.
