Rhodochrosite on Quartz (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

This specimen came labeled as coming from either Colorado or Butte, Montana, and honestly I've seen Rhodochrosite specimens from the San Juan Moutains of Colorado that are nearly impossible to differentiate from Rhodos I've seen from Butte, Montana. With that said, this pece is a tough one as I can find features where I can make a case that it could be from either region. I would probably go with Butte if I was forced to pick a locality, but it's really hard to say. The specimen features tiny, sharp, well-formed, beautiful pink rhombs of Rhodochrosite sitting on prismatic, translucent white Quartz. Good condition overall with only a few contacted Quartz crystals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
