Item Description
Rhodochrosite from the Sunnyside mine is one of the staples of any good Colorado or Rhodochrosite collection or any good collection for that matter. In my opinion, this mine is only second to the famous Sweet Home in Colorado as far as the quality of the US specimens is concerned. This superb small cabinet has a beautiful coating of sharp Rhodochrosite rhombs to 7 mm on edge, all resting on little, floral clusters of Quartz needles. What makes this piece so special is an extraordinary luster, as well as the deeper rose color than you normally see from Sunnyside. The aesthetics are excellent, in no small part due to the color, luster, and arrangement of these Rhodos. It is NOT just a representative example, but is fantastic for the size and style! Formerly in the Kraissl collection. For a good reference, there is a 2011 Lithographie issue is devoted entirely to minerals of the San Juans.
