Item Description

The Oppu Mine remains, long after its closure, the classic and most well-known source of rhodochrosite from Japan. Rhodos from here date from before WWII to over 100 years ago! This showy large plate features a dense forest of variably-sized, glassy quartz points strikingly and preferentially coated with pastel-pink drusy rhodochrosite and rhodochrosite scalenohedrons on a quartz and pyrite matrix. In excellent shape, overall. A large quartz is broken on the back periphery of the piece, but is mostly out-of-sight. A classic and excellent old-timer from the Bob Trimingham Collection.
