Item Description

Pretty pastel-pink, unusually shaped rhodochrosite crystal florets are aesthetically scattered on the sculptural large contrasting matrix of glassy quartz points on this showy and excellent combination from the historic silver mines at Taxco. The preferential hematite tinting in some of the quartz crystals adds character. Spanish silver mining began in Taxco soon after the Aztec conquest in 1521. This showy combination came from late 1980s finds at the Remedios Mine. See the 2011 Mineralogical Record article in Mexico Special Issue VI, Vol. 42, No. 5. Ex Dr. Miguel Romero Collection. Romero was a Mexican national Senator and prominent Agriculture businessman who owned the finest collection of Mexican minerals ever assembled. See the 2008 Mineralogical Record Supplement, The Miguel Romero Collection of Mexican Minerals, Vol. 39, No. 6 and https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/romeromiguel/. An interesting large Taxco rhodochrosite and quartz combination with an outstanding provenance.
