A superb, VERY RARE and sculptural 360-degree rhodochrosite on pyrrhotite combination from the famous Potosi Mine at Santa Eulalia. Striking, colorful, bubby botryoids of pretty pastel-pink rhodochrosite richly and dramatically cover the sculptural pyrrhotite matrix. The fantastic large "ball" at the crest is 3.0 cm across. The placement of the larger balls and near total rhodo coverage on one side are remarkable. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bit of bruising and contacting to the striking isolated pyrrhotite "spire". This outstanding combination certainly dates to the Santa Eulalia heydays of the 1960s to early 1980s. The piece also has a super provenance. Previously in the collection of Jack Birch, an early Dallas MAD member and owner of a rock shop just off the plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Then in the collection of Dr. Ed David. He assembled several world-class collections and was Science Advisor to President Nixon. His specimen number is on the base. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X32-4 and illustrated on Page 102 of his 2013 self-published book, Rhodochrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance (available by request).
