Item Description
The Oppu Mine remains, long after its closure, the classic and most well-known source of rhodochrosite from Japan. Rhodos from here date from before WWII to over 100 years ago! This showy, undulating, mounded CABINET plate of pretty pastel-pink, flattened rhodochrosite rhombs covers matrix. Some of the rhombs on the edges have a light brown, iron oxide tint, which adds color character. This classic old-timer is pristine. Outstanding material from this historic locality from the Howard Belsky Collection.
