Item Description
For those who don't know, Richard Kosnar mined the Sweet Home for a few years during the late 1970's and managed to collect some excellent Rhodo specimens. This piece is from one of the last pockets that Rich opened before he was done at the mine. This piece is a VERY good sized Rhodochrosite rhombohedron from any locality, let alone the Sweet Home mine. The piece is in EXCELLENT condition as it is virtually a "floater" showing only the slightest point of contact on the reverse side, otherwise, it's completely crystallized all the way around! This elongated/compressed crystal is very sharp with the classic pink-red color with excellent gemminess. For an added touch, there are a few small, gemmy, greenish Apatite crystals and Quartz on the ends of the rhomb. This mine is now completely defunct, and will never produce these world class quality Rhodochrosite specimens again. I don't have to tell you that these pieces are selling for top dollar across the board, and this piece is a superb miniature with fine color, size and gemminess! Rarely does one find nearly 2 INCH Rhodochrosite crystals from the Sweet Home on the market, especially in this quality. Valued at $4000-$4500. A very worthwhile and eye-catching single gem Rhodochrosite crystal from this most classic of localities.
