Rhodochrosite (large stone)

Rhodochrosite is quite popular among collectors thanks to the superb specimens and gems from places like the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado and the N'Chwaning Mines in South Africa. With that said, people might forget that there are very extensive Rhodochrosite deposits in Argentina, but they produce a completely different style of Rhodo. The material is not often gemmy enough for faceting stones, but it does have great color and banding patterns. This particular stone is a beautiful pink and white "Oval Cabochon" cut gem with slight translucency, and defined banding showing how it grew in stalactitic formations.
