Rhodochrosite (large stone)

Rhodochrosite is probably most well-known from the Sweet Home mine in Colorado, but there are very extensive Rhodochrosite deposits in Argentina. Argentina has provided a tremendous amount of stalagtitic Rhodochrosite with a beautiful pink color banding, but rarely is the material gemmy enough for faceting as most of it is either slabbed or cabbed. With that said, this is a beautiful polished slice of Rhodo from Argentina and rather gemmy when backlit as you can see in the photo. My favorite aspect of the piece is the fact that the outer "rind" makes this piece look like a slice of watermelon, and is a great novelty piece. An amazingly unique and attractive piece to add to your collection.
