Rhodochrosite (large stone)

In the mineral world, Rhodochrosite is probably most well-known from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, or the N'Chwaning Mines in South Africa, but there are very extensive Rhodochrosite deposits in Argentina. The Argentine material is not often gemmy enough for faceting stones, but it does have great color and banding patterns. This particular stone is a beautiful, large, reddish-pink and white "Heart Cabochon" cut gem with great internal translucency, and excellent banding showing how it grew in stalactitic formations. It GLOWS with color when backlit. It's one of the largest single stones of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions, and was priced at $866.25 high retail.
