Item Description
Goethite is EXTREMELY RARE from the Uchucchacua Mine, famed for oustanding rhodochrosite, wire silver, acanthite and alabandite specimens. The MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale features no examples. Fluorite is also a rare accessory from the mine. This VERY RARE and colorful mounded miniature combination is highlighted by the aesthetically scattered gemmy and lustrous, dark cherry-red rhodochrosite scalenohedrons, to 5 mm (doubly terminated) set on the starkly contrasting, RARE, 2-generation coating of matte-gray geothite. Grape-like clusters of goethite botryoids and are associated with numerous fantastic elongated stalactites, to 1.3 cm (doubly terminated!). Super and RARE accessories are the isolated crystals and cluster of glassy, highly modified fluorite crystals, to about 3 mm. The 1.2 cm fluorite crystal cluster is on one side of the piece. Ex W.S. Logan Collection X129-1. His label is incorrect. MINDAT does NOT list rhodochrosite for the Julcani Mine or District. The rhodo looks distinctly like classic Uchucchacua material. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE combination material from this well-known mine.
