Item Description
A colorful and substantial large rhodochrosite combination plate from the famous and now-closed Sweet Home Mine. Gemmy, lustrous, light cherry-red to rose-red rhodo rhombs are richly and aesthetically clustered and scattered on the quartz and sulfide matrix festooned with quartz needles. The large rhomb on the left is 1.9 cm across on the diagonal. The pretty rhodo cluster in the center has a 9 mm light purple fluorite cube in the center. Scattered clusters of small tetrahedrite or bornite crystals, some with iridescent coatings, plus a few tiny pyrites adds contrast to this showy piece. The rhodos on the left side are cleaved or bruised. 4 of the 5 rhodos in the center are pristine, with one having a cleaved face. Nearly all of the smaller rhodos on the right are pristine. The back of this piece has been sawed to enhance the display quality. This is an excellent, large, highly representative example of the combination species from this renowned locale. The prices on Sweet Home rhodos keep going up. Valued at $1500-1750.
