Item Description

A striking, very large, rhodochrosite rhomb from the famous 1992 Rainbow Pocket at the famous and now-closed Sweet Home Mine. This is the same pocket, that produced the gigantic "Alma King". It confirmed the logic of specimen mining at this old location and based on this find, a fortune was invested here in the hunt for more. The impressive, translucent, deep cherry-red rhomb measures 4.6 cm on edge and 5.5 cm on the diagonal! The crystal faces have high luster and are lightly frosted. The large rhomb aesthetically rests on mixed sulfide and quartz matrix and the rhomb is beautifully accented by needle quartz crystals and very pretty purple fluorite cubes, to 6 mm. The 4 mm fluorite cube perched near the corner of the rhodo rhomb is cute! The backlit photo highlights the juicy, deep cherry-red color saturation and translucence of the rhodo. The frontal presentation views are nearly pristine, although the upper back corner of the rhomb is contacted - a very minimal detraction to the overall striking presentation of an imposing specimen. Some minor contact or cleaving on the back of the rhomb is totally out of sight. Very highly representative of the well-known pocket and combination species, especially with the purple fluorites... Here is your chance to get a significant, large rhodo from this classic locale without selling a car to afford it. Fairly valued at $3000-4000.
