Item Description

We're beefing up the auction this week with a wonderful miniature Rhodochrosite specimen from Colorado. The Sweet Home Mine was personally reopened by Brian Kosnar's father, Richard A. Kosnar for a few summers in the 1970s and collected many beautiful specimens. This piece was collected by Rich in July of 1977, and is certainly of the best singles that he found in that first year of mining at the Sweet Home. The crystal is a fine, eye-catching, good sized, sharp, gemmy, pink-red, slightly striated rhombohedron with great form. The crystal is actually complete on all sides and is accented by some small gemmy Quartz crystals, and a few purple Fluorite crystals. I don't have to tell you that the Sweet Home is no longer producing specimens, and their value has been increasing over the last several years due to the fact that Sweet Home Rhodos have set the standard when it comes to color, size and quality for the species. A very worthwhile crystal that was part of the Kosnar's collection for over 30 years! Valued at $3400.
