Item Description

The locality of Cavnic was first documented in 1336, but mining activity in the area dates back to the Roman age. It was named after the river, which got its name from a Slavic word, kopan?, which refers to digging. This area has produced an amazing amount of beautiful display minerals, including some distinctive Rhodochrosites. This attractive small cabinet piece features soft pink compressed "rosettes" of Rhodochrosite off matrix. Good representation for the locality. The luster is above average, and the color is really eye-catching. Ex Jim Robison carbonate collection.
