Rhodochrosite (ex Gary Weaver Collection)

Manuelita Rhodochrosite specimens are not terribly easy to find on the market these days, as most of the best specimens came out in the 1990s. This attractive small miniature specimen features very sharp, well-formed, translucent, soft pink colored blocky rhombohedra of Rhodochrosite on minor matrix. The largest crystal measures 9 mm on edge. The color is a lovely rose hue when the crystals are backlit, but they're not necessarily gemmy. Good quality all over the display side, with no major damage that I can see. A very attractive and fine quality example of this classic material from Peru. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
