Item Description
A classic specimen of the famous Eagle Mine Rhodochrosite specimens. These are easily distinguished from specimens from the famous Sweet Home Mine or even the Sunnyside, as they have a distinctive "rosette" form with compressed bladed rhombohedra, typically found on sulfide (usually Pyrite and / or Sphalerite) matrix. This piece is a very attractive display specimen featuring hundreds of sharp, lustrous, compressed rhombs of soft pink colored Rhodochrosite covering the entire display side of this small cabinet sized specimen. The underside shows Pyrite matrix with a small amount of Sphalerite. It should be noted that the Rhodochrosite crystals from this mine often have a bit of iron content, which is why they're a softer pink hue than those from places like the Sweet Home. Excellent condition on the front (it's understandably contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall). A must have for any Rhodochrosite collection or a fan of Colorado minerals. Priced in our inventory at $950. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
