Item Description
A seldom seen specimen of Rhodochrosite from the Mountain Monarch Mine (sometimes called the Michael / Mickey Breen Mine) south of Ouray, Colorado. The specimen hosts small (about 2 mm) crystals of pink rhombic Rhodochrosite associated with small spherical "balls" of Siderite(?) along with tiny metallic Chalcopyrite on prismatic off-white colored Quartz matrix. The piece is best seen under magnification, and looks great up close. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X66-6). One of the labels states that the specimen was collected in 1995 by Robert Stoufer, and another says it was collected Harvey Gordon in the 1970s. I'm more inclined to believe it was collected in the 1970s, as I'm almost certain the mine was closed in 1995.
