Item Description
The Sunnyside mine produced some very well known Rhodochrosite specimens in its history, along with some attractive association pieces. This specimen features a few rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 1.1 cm, which are notably different colors! One of the crystals shows a rich rosy pink hue, while the others are coated with a secondary layer of soft pink Rhodochrosite. I've honestly never seen a piece quite like this from the Sunnyside, and I've seen hundreds if not thousands of them. The interesting thing to me is that I've seen both of these colors (coated and non-coated crystals) on separate specimens from the Sunnyside Mine, but never together on the same piece. Minor associated Fluorite, Quartz and sulfides can be seen on the piece as well. From the collection of Brian Kosnar, and although more of a unique novelty piece, it's also a fairly showy thumbnail.
