Item Description

One could certainly make the case that the finest crystallized Rhodochrosites from any South American locality are the pieces from the famous Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. This attractive small cabinet specimen features a classic, flame red color, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, doubly-terminated scalenohedron measuring 1.6 cm long associated with many smaller "dogtooth" Rhodos on matrix from this well-known Peruvian mine. The main Rhodo is undamaged, but has an odd termination almost showing a twinning habit, but I believe it's just a parallel growth. Some of the smaller Rhodo crystals are not complete, but it's the main crystal that really matters here and it looks fantastic both in photos and in person. Valued in the inventory at $1,350. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X89-2).
