Rhodochrosite coated by Quartz

Item Description

Butte is famous for producing a great assortment of fine crystallized minerals, including some of the best Rhodochrosite outside of Colorado from any locality in the United States. This piece is a wonderful showy display specimen loaded with well-formed, baby pink rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 1.7 cm which have a light coating of drusy colorless Quartz to creating a pretty sparkling effect on the surface. The piece is in great shape overall, with no major damage that I can find with the naked eye. A classic example of these great old pieces dating back circa 1950s-1960s era. Formerly in the collection of Don Belsher. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html).
