Item Description

The famous Oppu Mine in Japan is one the great historic localities for Rhodochrosite. This important locality produced some of the most iconic specimens of this beloved species in history. This mine dates back to the 1600s, and the Rhodochrosite specimens date back into the 1800s. The mine is long closed, and good Rhodos are seldom seen on the market, which is a shame because they are incredibly distinctive and beautiful. This piece is an attractive small cabinet specimen featuring a coverage of semi-botryoidal aggregate of Rhodochrosite with a saturated glowing reddish-pink hue, associated with minor metallic golden Pyrite on matrix. A lovely attractive example of these most classic specimens from this prestigious mine.
