Item Description

The famous Wolf Mine in Siegerland, Germany is noted for having produced the finest crystallized rhodochrosite specimens in Europe and for many years were considered the finest in world. The mine operated continuously from 1870 to 1925 and then sporadically until 1962. Good specimens are today quite difficult to find and are very highly desirable. An aesthetic cluster of lustrous, translucent, deep rose-red, unusually truncated crystals is strikingly accented with a single scalenohedron in the very well-placed cleft in the sculptural boxwork gossan matrix. The cleft and adjacent walls lined with lustrous botryoids of goethite are a fine accent. Ex Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection and obtained from the Autica Collection in Rome in 1960. valued $500
