Item Description
The historic Oppu Mine is noted for Japan's finest rhodochrosite specimens, long after its closing in 1979. Typically mammillary or botryoidal, the front of this rich two-sided plate is covered with crusts of rich rose-pink, translucent bubbly botryoids nicely accented with a frosted texture. More rhodo on the back with typical pyrites is a nice bonus. This ancient mine has been worked for silver, copper, lead, zinc and cadmium and finally for banded rhodochrosite since the late 1600s (MINDAT). Excellent, rich and colorful rhodo from the W.S. Logan Collection # X28. Valued at $1000
