Item Description
Pastel-pink rhodochrosite rhombs to 1.5 cm are richly scattered on the sparkly, sphalerite and chalcopyrite matrix on this showy Colorado specimen from the famous Eagle Mine at Gilman. The rhombs have moderate luster on this excellent piece. Highly representative of the species and well-known locale. From Karl: I got to spend an entire day underground at the Eagle Mine, while on Summer Geology Field Camp in 1970. We got to go right up into the working stopes, while they were drilling. A large facinating underground mine, stll in full production then. We grabbed specimens off of the passing ore trains. I did not see any rhodochrosite this good.
