Rhodochrosite (classic)

Item Description

A very fine plate of sharply crystallized rhodochrosite rhombs from Butte. The rhombs have rich pastel-pink color, moderate luster and reach 2.2 cm on the diagonal. Classic Butte rhodo and comes with a Shaws label. Earl Shaw is known to have purchased many fine Butte specimens from famed field collector and dealer, Ed McDole, in the 1940s and 50s. It is likely that this piece came from Ed back in the days when we worked in the mine and also bought from miners after he was busted for collecting on the job (which of course was the only reason he TOOK the job to begin with!).
